James Pieper

James Pieper serves as Senior Adviser at WSBI – a global association of savings and retail banks in some 80 countries. In this role, he builds communications and public affairs outreach programmes and leads the World Savings Day efforts at WSBI. His work helps member banks broaden financial inclusion in innovative ways.

Prior to joining WSBI-ESBG, Mr. Pieper oversaw communications projects for HSBC in London, including support for the HSBC Global Education Trust. He started his public affairs career at the Chicago District Bank of the Federal Reserve System, the central bank of the United States. In that role, he led financial literacy and financial education outreach efforts to media, educators and young people. He is also a journalist and worked as a Reporter for the French newspaper, Le Dauphiné Libéré – France’s fourth most-read daily.

Mr. Pieper studied Economics at the University of Illinois-Chicago Graduate School of Economics and received a Master’s degree in Managerial Communications from Northwestern University and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Minnesota.
